At least according to G4TV. But they usually don’t do hyperbole, so damn!

I’ve been gone for a while, so I’m back with a cool video of a guy who figured out how to make a VR head attachment for the wii. You really have to watch it to understand.

If nintendo actually made something like this (which would require owning two wii remotes) there could be some really fun results. This is all assuming that you’ve forgotten that the Virtual Boy was in existence.

256px-assassins_creed.jpgAssassin’s Creed is a fairly new game by Ubisoft that is getting somewhat mixed reviews. Being that I am trying to start some game reviewness on the cynical times, I decided that this would be a good game to start with. The game is about an assassin who blah blah blah…here’s my problem. So here I am, at the last level, and suddenly my assassin falls through the fucking earth into an everlasting void of white, eventually dying.Upon his resurrection, he has been cloned with both versions of him moving together in a strange dance of frustration.  Did I mention this was the last fucking level?  What makes this so god-damned frustrating is that it renders the game in-fucking-playable and un-fucking-finishable.  So, alas, my first review as a budding game enthusiast will have to wait until the supposed patch is released. I really, really want this game to be good.  I mean, up until this point, I only had a few minor gripes about the repetitiveness and a certain assassination that is damningly frustrating.  This glitch shouldn’t effect my eventual review, but how the fuck can Ubisoft release a game that can’t be finished!  I know that it isn’t everyone who is having this annoying problem, but I’m not the only one. See the video after the jump. Continue reading »

Some students from the Tampere University of Technology in Finland thought it would be a cool idea to create a giant-ass tetris.  They used a bunch of know-how and a cell-phone to have a couple nights of fun.  This proves that even Finish college students have an assload of free time to play video games.

In case you haven’t heard about it, the internet publication Gamespot recently fired one of their lead video game reviewers shortly after giving Kane and Lynch, a game that was then being heavily advertised on the site, a relatively bad score. The forums then exploded with accusations of Gamespot firing Gerstmann solely based on the game review and the ensuing fallout from Eidos Interactive, the publisher of “Kane and Lynch”.

The bad press has finally got Gamespot speaking on their own behalf, by way of this special report that “answers” many of the questions being asked by livid gamers. The real question being asked is whether or not publishers have an influence over game reviews. Big publishers like EA, Eidos, and the new behemoth Activision/Blizzard spend a ton of money on sites like Gamespot and IGN, making me a bit skeptical over whether or not that money does not in some way influence the outcome of these game reviews.

The guys at Penny Arcade have a wonderful way of expressing their opinions on these issues by way of their hilarious comic and blog, and usually have a good point hidden in-between the lines. This debacle raises some of the inherent problems with review scores, not just for video games,  in general, something I hope to discuss on this blog in much greater detail soon.

Videogame companies Activision and Vivendi, who owns Blizzard, are merging. The New York Times has a pretty interesting article about the expansion of video games from caffeine-driven teenage-boy wonderland into some thing that everyone can enjoy.

The Wii, World of Warcraft, and Guitar Hero have all made games open to everyone. I personally think WoW is about the nerdiest game around, but it has over 9 million subscribers! That’s more than double the population of South Carolina.
