President Bush at Furman…Oh hell!

ARTICLE FROM GREENVILLEONLINE.COM:

President George W. Bush will give the commencement speech at Furman University next month, the White House said Thursday.
Only barebones details were available.

Bush will at the 7:30 p.m. ceremony where approximately 650 degrees will be awarded in the 16,000-seat Paladin Stadium on May 31.

Furman spokesman Vince Moore said it would mark the first time that a sitting president has visited the campus in its 182-year history.

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, a 1983 Furman graduate and the 2002 graduation speaker, played a key role in the arrangements, Moore said.

He said after Sanford inquired about the possibility, university president David Shi “met with the senior class leadership, and they were unanimous in their endorsement of the university issuing a formal invitation to the president.” Read the rest of this entry »

Man BONES a PICNIC TABLE!!

I have written many scandalous and sensational headlines in my day, but this one seems to TOP them all. (pun intended of course)

From Fox News.Com

Ohio police have arrested a man who was caught on tape allegedly having sex with a picnic table.

Art Price Jr., 40, of Bellevue, Ohio, was arrested after a neighbor videotaped him engaged sexually with the metal table, according to a report on FOX19.com.

Price was seen on four separate occasions, always between 10:30 a.m. and noon, having sex with the picnic table, Bellevue Police Capt. Matt Johnson told the TV station.

“The first video we had, he was completely nude,” Johnson said, noting the table in question had a hole in the middle intended to hold an umbrella.

Price, a married father of three school-age kids, faces felony counts of public indecency because his house is near an elementary school, according to the report.

The Debate on the Outside

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNpOVwTbVC0]

It has been weeks since I attended the South Carolina Democratic Debates in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, but the resounding messages that were heard there still make their way into my thoughts. One of my passions is documenting events as they happen, so that I can look back and realize how profound those moments truly were. While the battles behind the walls of the Palace Theater were hours from being fought, the fierce battle on the outside had begun. So, with my camera I give a perspective view of what these groups on the outside were saying. Perhaps the most verbal of the groups was the organization I traveled down with, a coalition of student leaders promoting a clean energy future. In this short video presentation you can see the direct opposition posed from the group Clean Coal. Read the rest of this entry »

Fired up? Ready to GO!

On the heels of Senator Barack Obama’s monumental win in South Carolina, I am filled even more with a sense inspiration and hope. Personally, I have never been overly drawn to political issues or candidates, despite my understanding of how American Politics impacts the world. I only garnered more discouragement from speaking with friends who were also more than politically disengaged. The youth of America had not been inspired. They had not been engaged.

As someone who is a general news junkie, knowledge of general political issues comes with the informational territory. I understand what the important issues are and which sound bites would be fed to the masses to propel the issues forward , but I never took responsibility for those issues. How could those issues impact my way of life, and those closest to me? Immigration is important because the media decides to dedicate airtime to it, but what do I believe? I would think the situation overseas is dire, but it is the way it is and it is not my responsibility to care about it. Perhaps by saying that I was “inspired” by Obama would be stealing from the Queen of Media, Ms. Oprah Winfrey, but it is the only way to describe what has happened…and is happening all around this country. (By the way you may OWN a lot Oprah….but the word inspiration is free game.) Read the rest of this entry »

BARACK and the BEAST!

Can Barack Obama win South Carolina? Well, the optimist inside me shouts yes, but recent events beg a different response. Each day I watch local news, flipping back and forth between sloppy coverage. Several days ago, one of the local stations had a segment in which the news anchor was interviewing Senator Obama. In her interview she took questions submitted by viewers straight to Obama. The questions were outrageous, but perhaps give us a better view of the mentality Barack would face if he were to gain the Democratic nomination. Most of the questions surrounded the absurd idea of Obama being an radical Muslim. Question after question targeted the same nerve…each looking for a reason not to like him.I am sure Barack is pondering…what to do…what to do…should I spread the radical Islam …which I dont believe in.. or focus on becoming an effective leader of the free world? Black men have it hard enough..let the man concentrate on the latter. Can people not utilize the tools afforded to us in the 21st century to delve deeper into these issues if they are of such importance? While I do understand that many do not have internet access etc…a library card is just a proof of identification away. I heard even more of these questions at my job. Read the rest of this entry »

Tuned out to the messages that matter

obama, clinton, edwards

Often times we get caught up in the outrageous noise of conventional living and fail to recognize the real messages that surround us. Yes, there are the blaring ones of commercialism, but there are also some of truth and responsibilty. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to go to the Democratic Debates in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, sponsored by the South Carolina Legislative Caucus. While there were rampant messages of partisan politics, it was those voices that had something more to say than mere praises in support of one candidate or another that touched my spirit. I realized how truly tuned out I was becoming.

I traveled to Myrtle Beach with a broad coalition of student leaders dedicated to propelling the message of a clean energy future to political leaders through their grassroots efforts. Many of these students don’t receive any type of monetary compensation for their work, but you wouldn’t know this by their displays of dedication to the cause. The students made conference calls the entire drive en route to Myrtle Beach, honing their talking points and presentation. When we arrived they hit the ground running with media advisories, signs, petitions, polar bear suits, and an energy which cannot wholly be explained. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s not easy being blue!

No, I am not referring to the hip performing trio, this is the real deal. Paul Karason says he drank something called “colloidal silver,” which gradually morphed him from a fair complexion to a smurf. I’m no rocket scientist but with a name like “colloidal silver” red flags…or big blue ones should have been waving somewhere. Perhaps the saddest part of his color-changing conundrum is his lack of acceptance. Karason admits his cannot venture into the public realm much at all, because of the circus his condition creates with spectators. It’s not easy being blue..but hey do what most Americans do when a situation gets you down and out…capitalize on it…Paul see Green baby..not blue!
