Man Survives 500 ft Fall, Strokes Faces

Luckiest Man Alive?

This is sort of the stuff out of nightmares. What happens if you are on a window washer platform, 47 stories above the ground, and the lift fails? If you aren’t a super hero, you fall 500 feet, and most likely turn into a human piñata. This scenario really happened to a poor fellow named Alcides Moreno, and, against all odds, he survived. Sadly, his brother died in the fall, discrediting the theory that falling 500 feet to the ground is a non-lethal activity.

According to the New York Times,

“He was given roughly 24 pints of blood and 19 pints of plasma and underwent an operation to open his abdomen in the emergency room because, his doctor said, they did not want to risk moving him to an operating room. As December went on, he endured nine orthopedic operations.”

Not only did he survive, apparently he’s going to (hopefully) walk again. He started talking, and even rubbed his wife’s face, after mistakingly giving some love to one of his nurses.

He might want to get a different job though. Hooray for modern medicine.  Check out the full article here.
